You know the situation.  You’ve had one too many raucous nights out on the town and Netflix is going through a bit of s dry spell- what to do? Thankfully, there’s plenty of alternative ways to spend your evenings in Leeds with the best student accommodation Leeds and you never know- you may even pick up some new skills to boot.

Shake it up

So, you’ve probably spent your fair share of time propped up against a bar or two in your time as a student in Leeds, but how about trying your hand at becoming a mixologist? Sandinista throw a brilliant two hour masterclass and will show you how to shake up five of their best cocktails, including zombies and Mai Tais – all for just £25.

Chaophraya is one of the best Thai restaurants in town, but they also offer their own masterclass in their rather handsome Palm Sugar Lounge. For £30, you’ll be greeted with a champagne reception and even be given the chance to impress them with your own creation, with the winner receiving a bottle of Prosecco.

Just for laughs

If there’s one thing the down to earth people of Yorkshire are not short of, it’s a sense of humour. For that reason, it’s no surprise the city has a thriving comedy scene. Jongleurs showcase some of the country’s finest stand-up talent every weekend, and offer some great food and drink packages to boot.

The Saturday Night Comedy Sessions at Hi-Fi are also very popular, having booked the likes of Alan Carr, Russell Howard, John Bishop and Katherine Ryan over the years. The Wardrobe and Original Oak both play host to the House of Fun Comedy, which is Leeds longest running (and best value) comedy night.

Movie nights with a twist

If you love cinema but hate big, soulless multiplexes, then you’re in safe hands. Supercool watering hole, Crowd of Favours, screen classic movies such as Ferris Bueller’s Day Off free of charge every Tuesday night.

Sneaky Experience like to do things a little differently and throw themed movie nights that allow you to be a part of the action. In the past, they’ve recreated the beach for Jaws in Leeds Dock, and built their very own Jack Rabbit Slims restaurant for a Pulp Fiction evening.

Red, red wine

Whilst many of us like to drink wine, few of us know as much about it as we like. Friends of Ham is a unique bar which specialises in meat and cheeseboards, fine ales and of course, great wine. Keep a look out for their awesome food and drink pairing evenings, where they will allow you to sample wine and sherry, whilst also demonstrating how to carve cured ham. Not to be missed.

Rocking the salsa

If your two left feet give you dancing skills that leave a lot to be desired, then why not do something about it? Salsa Rocks Leeds offer expert tuition from their friendly dance coaches in the city centre every Wednesday from 8pm. Once you’ve gone through your paces, the lights go down at 10pm and you can hone your skills at their social event. With four different levels of class running simultaneously on each of their evenings, there’s something for everyone.
