The area also has a strong community feel, a number of local shops and a diverse range of properties for students to choose from. So whether you are looking for budget student accommodation or luxury purpose built apartments Headingley can offer something for everyone.

Public Transport & Road Links
Headingley is conveniently located for both universities and Leeds City Centre. For those wishing to travel home from University regularly the M62, M6 and M1 are within easy reach. Leeds Train Station is also easily accessible and Leeds Bradford Airport is only a fifteen minute drive away.

Shops & Businesses
Headingley has its own shopping centre, the Arndale Centre, which incorporates Somerfield's, Superdrug, Greggs, Costa Coffee, KFC and a Post Office amongst many others. The area also benefits from several banks, restaurants, boutique style shops and Starbucks.

Entertainment
There is a huge selection of great bars, pubs and restaurants to choose from in Headingley. Some of our favourites include Trio, The Box, The Original Oak, Citrus and Bretts Fisheries.

  • Trio - by far the most sophisticated bar in Headingley. The basement is the main bar area with plenty of seats and raised booths to sink into with your favourite drink. Upstairs is the restaurant serving a fine array of food for lunch and dinner. Finally, the jewel of the Trio crown must be Skippy's cocktail bar at the top. Some of the best cocktails in Leeds have been created here and you'd be mad to miss it!
  • The Box - for many students the Box is like a second home! With a number of huge plasma screens showing a mixture of sports, TV shows and music videos plus the ever-popular pool tables why go anywhere else? You can bag a cheap meal and there are some great pizzas on offer too, plus breakfast all day!!
  • Original Oak - an institution in its own right. The Original Oak has three bars and never fails to impress. During the summer, the beer garden is a real hit with the students and the bbq's always prove really popular! The Original Oak is great for Sunday Lunch - the carvery only costs around £6 and you can pile your plate with as much veg as you like! Get there early or you'll go hungry!
  • Bretts Fisheries - referred to in the Leeds Guide as the 'Harrods of Chippies,' Bretts is no ordinary fish and chip business! Whether you choose to sit in and eat or grab a takeaway, it is well worth a visit!
  • Salvo's - a buzzing family run Italian restaurant which never fails to deliver a vibrant atmosphere, friendly service and a wonderful menu of traditional Italian food. A great choice for when your parents come to visit!

Sport
If you live in Headingley you will find all the sporting action you want, right on your doorstep. Headingley Stadium is home to Yorkshire Cricket Club, Leeds Rhinos Rugby League and Leeds Carnegie Rugby Union. Becketts Park Campus is also just up the road where several Leeds Metropolitan Uni teams play and train.

If you fancy venturing slightly further a field there are plenty of country houses and walks contained in the Yorkshire area. There is Harewood House located on Harewood Estate, Kirkstall Abbey (dating from medieval times and Jacobean), and Temple Newsam House - home to paintings from the City Art Gallery.

Hyde Park has a small selection of shops including newsagents, convenience stores, a range of retro boutiques, barbers, furniture shops and even a fancy dress shop!

Entertainment
There are several takeaways, pubs and cafés in Hyde Park but some of our favorites include:

  • Hyde Park Pub - well known and popular student pub, cheap drinks, big place always busy.
  • LS6 Café - a brilliant retro-style café which serves great coffee and delicious ciabatta's. A great place with a chilled out, bohemian ambience.
  • Dry Dock (converted barge boat) - a converted barge boat located on a grassy hill close to Leeds Met. Needs to be seen to be believed! It is usually crammed wall to wall with students but check it out on a sunny afternoon and you can enjoy a glass or two on the top deck whilst basking in the sun!
  • Fab Café - a modern day museum pub dedicated to pop culture and science fiction, with cheap drinks and retro music!

Headingley is also only a few minutes walk away which offers loads more bars, restaurants and pubs!

Sports lovers will find Headingley Stadium just up the road, home to Yorkshire Cricket Club, Leeds Rhinos Rugby League and Leeds Carnegie Rugby Union. There is also Hyde Park itself which has a skate park and is popular for playing football.
